Countryside Classroom on Wheels - CCOW

This purpose built trailer is the first of its kind in the country and allows the local farmer to bring a representative sample of his farm to the school playground. The trailer is 6.0m long, 2.5m high and 2.5m wide. One side opens up to create a covered walkway, allowing access to the two livestock pens and on board display area.  All waste is collected in tanks beneath the trailer.  The trailer has hand washing facilities and can be adapted for wheelchair access as required.

A CCOW visit enables children to see farm animals at close range and hear from the farmer how they are cared for. They can touch, smell and feel a variety of crops and feeds and hear how they are grown and produced.

Early, middle and upper stage pupil workbooks and leader notes have been produced for use in conjunction with a CCOW visit.  These are available on request at the time of booking.

This resource is available to schools free of charge. Information and a booking form may be requested from the RNCI Project Officer. Please note that while every effort will be made to meet your first choice of date for a CCOW visit, this may not be possible given the farmers seasonal work commitments.
